Maria Zakharova
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the statement of the US Secretary of State that Washington is no longer going to overthrow regimes in other countries and impose democracy by force. She told about this in an interview with the Zvezda TV channel, RIA Novosti reports.
Zakharova noted that this is the “right decision” on the part of the United States. However, she stressed that, even using any other resources, one cannot promote anything to other sovereign countries “without their will, official consent, without respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of these states.”
The representative of the ministry advised to re-read the UN Charter and be guided by it. She added that this is a small brochure that the State Department will master.
Blinken had previously stated that the United States would not promote democracy through costly military interventions or attempts to overthrow authoritarian regimes by force. “We have tried this tactic in the past. Despite good intentions, it didn’t work, ”said the Secretary of State.
