The journalists learned that the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Russia has opened a virtual reception on the shadow Internet – the darknet. There she will receive information about security threats to the country.

According to Meduza, the SVR did not publicly announce the opening of the reception. But in December 2020, a message about the reception appeared on the main page of the Foreign Intelligence Service website. It says that “if you are outside of Russia and have important information about threats to the security of the Russian Federation, you can send it to us in a secure and anonymous way through the virtual reception desk in the Tor network.”

It is specified that the reception center of the SVR is located at an address in the .onion domain zone. The agency also suggests encrypting threat messages using PGP. To read the response of the Foreign Intelligence Service, the user will need a special code of five English words.
