Betina Popova
Former Russian figure skater Betina Popova remembered the desire to commit suicide. Her words are available on the Match TV website.
Popova said that as a child she was scared to come to the weigh-in, and because of her excess weight, she wanted to take her own life. The skater added that later she began to treat everything with humor, so the fans formed her “frivolous image”. She emphasized that the positive and “feigned carelessness” helped her cope with stress.
Earlier Popova reasoned about the fact that athletes do not have childhood and youth, which is why they grow up as unbalanced personalities. She also noted that sports brought up in her a perverted concept of the relationship between a man and a woman.
23-year-old Popova is a silver medalist of the Russian championship among juniors, a bronze medalist of the junior Grand Prix finals and a winner of the Universiade in ice dancing. The athlete decided to end her career in February this year.
