Russia has not yet received a visa from the United States for the entry of a delegation from about fifty people for the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN, which will be held in September.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that the US is not issuing 56 visas to allow Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his delegation to come to New York for the session of the UN General Assembly.
This is reported by Reuters with reference to Nebenzi's letter addressed to UN Secretary General António Guterres.
Vasily Nebenzia complains that in Over the past few months, Washington has “consistently denied entry visas” to a number of Russian citizens, delegates to other UN events.
State Department Representative and told the agency that the United States takes its obligations as a UN host country seriously, adding that visa records are confidential, so the United States cannot comment on individual cases.
“Every year we process hundreds of visas for delegates of the Russian Federation to UN events,” the State Department spokesman said.
He also noted that applications should be submitted as early as possible to ensure timely processing. According to him, this is especially important because of the unjustified actions of the Russian Federation against the US Embassy in Russia, including due to the forced dismissal of diplomats in Moscow.
Recall that earlier the Russian ambassador in Washington announced that he would apply to the US State Department with a demand to ensure the participation of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry in the UN General Assembly in New York.
