The Russian Defense Ministry spoke about the Israeli air strike on the Syrian province of Damascus around two in the morning on February 9. This was stated by Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, Deputy Head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS) in Syria, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
“At around 2 a.m. Moscow time on February 9, four tactical fighters of the Israeli Air Force F-16, without crossing the state border of Syria, launched a guided missile attack on targets in the area of the village of Kiswa in the province of Damascus,” he said.
The rear admiral added that eight missiles were destroyed by Russian-made air defense systems, which were in service with the Syrian army.
The Israeli military regularly strikes targets in Syria, explaining this as a response to similar actions by an Arab country and the desire to prevent the arming of enemies, including representatives of the Hezbollah movement. Official Damascus believes that such actions should be stopped. With a corresponding request, the Syrian authorities turned to the UN Security Council, insisting that the organization put pressure on Israel.
