The Russian Consulate General in New York cut off telephone lines. This was reported to TASS by diplomatic officials.

“All city telephone lines are almost completely disconnected, and there are many of them. From time to time there are problems with access to the Internet, ”said the agency's source.

According to him, there were no such communication breakdowns before.

Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Washington accused the United States of starting a “visa war” and imposing on Russia the practice of personal visa exchanges.

On December 19, it became known about the US decision to close its consulates in Russia. At the same time, the State Department explained that such measures are associated with the optimization of the work of the American diplomatic mission. The State Duma considered that the closure of the consulates general could be linked to the anti-Russian fever of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The consulate in Vladivostok was temporarily closed in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In Yekaterinburg, it continued to work, but on a limited basis. If closed, the only US diplomatic center in Russia will be the embassy in Moscow.
