Russian Ambassador to Latvia Mikhail Vanin said that the authorities of the republic are deliberately curtailing ties with Russia. He stated this on Wednesday, February 9, he was quoted by TASS.

“One gets the impression that the Latvian authorities are pursuing a conscious line towards curtailing ties with our country: for several years now, the work of the joint commission of historians has been frozen, inter-parliamentary cooperation is in limbo, and the implementation of a number of our initiatives in the humanitarian and memorial spheres has been artificially hampered,” he said. Russian ambassador.

He added that the Russian Federation is ready to develop trade and economic relations with the republic, but not to the detriment of its interests.

Earlier in January, the head of the Latvian Ministry of Defense, Artis Pabriks, said that the department would ask the state for an additional 350 million euros due to the growing threat to national security, in particular from Russia. “And we also see that Estonia has allocated additional resources to its armed forces, as well as a little to internal affairs, in order to contribute to the faster development of its armed forces,” he specified.
