Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov spoke about the “constructive alternative” to the missile arms race with the United States on the European continent. RIA Novosti reports.
According to the ambassador, an alternative to rivalry in the region is the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to de-escalate in Europe in the context of the termination of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles. He stressed that Russia is ready to make efforts together with foreign partners in order to prevent a missile arms race on the European continent.
The Russian diplomat noted that if the United States is interested in “real arms control”, the two countries can cooperate, and there is no need for escalation.
Antonov also commented on the statement by the US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien about the possibility of deploying hypersonic and ballistic missiles in Europe. The ambassador said that such intentions could lead to an imbalance in regional and global security, as well as to an increase in confrontational potential.
