Versailles is the former residence of the French kings.
On Tuesday, June 11, in the Palace of Versailles, which is one of the most busy tourist spots in France and attraction, there was a fire.
Reuters writes about this, citing the palace press service.
According to the Speaker of the House, the fire broke out on the roof area where repair work was being carried out. Due to the fire, visitors were evacuated.
“The firefighters have arrived. There is no more smoke or flames and the collection was not damaged,” the palace press service added.
Reuters notes that more than seven million people visit this palace every year. The Olympic Games equestrian competitions are also planned here this summer.
Le Fagaro clarifies that the smoke was noticed at 15:13 by workers at the repair site. The fire started right above the marble courtyard.
The fire was quickly extinguished, the fire and rescue unit (FRS) of the department reported. About 97 firefighters were involved in extinguishing the fire.
“There are no reports of casualties or damage to the collections,” said the communications department of the Palace of Versailles.
“Smoke was reported at the castle today. The incident was quickly brought under control and the public was evacuated for safety. The castle and gardens are now open,” reads the Palace of Versailles page in X.< /p>
