Selective supplies of weapons to Ukraine could contribute to the strengthening of the deterrence effect. This proposal was made by the representative of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) on foreign policy, Roderich Kiesewetter, in an interview with the Rheinische Post and General-Anzeiger newspapers, excerpts from which were published by the DPA agency, TASS reports. He commented on the situation with the aggravation on the border of Russia and Ukraine.
The politician believes that such tactics could prevent Russia from dominating the escalation.
At the same time, Kiesewetter insists that Germany needs a reliable reaction, since there is allegedly a threat to Ukraine from the Russian side. The representative of Germany is sure that Kiev should be supplied with night vision devices, anti-tank technologies and anti-aircraft missiles. That is, according to Kiesewetter, a defensive weapon.
Earlier, the head of the German Bundestag Committee on Defense, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, called on the Ukrainian authorities to comment more cautiously on the supply of weapons by Germany.
At the same time, the representative of the Bundestag pointed out that in recent years Germany has supported Ukraine, guided by a sense of responsibility and friendship.
On the eve of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba criticized and called the decision of Germany to transfer helmets to Kiev as military aid annoying. According to Kuleba, Berlin could and should have done more for Kiev – not only because of Ukraine, but also because of its position in Europe and the need to maintain security in the Euro-Atlantic space.
