Sergey Alekseev, chairman of the sports law commission of the Russian Bar Association, who announced that he represents the interests of the Russian athlete Sergei Shubenkov, commented on the information about the doping found in the athlete. His words are quoted by “Championship.com”.
“We are not talking about disqualification yet, because it is not known whether there is a drug or not,” Alekseev said. He added that if the presence of doping is proven, it will be necessary to establish how the substance got into the body.
Alekseev stressed that there could be several options. “Maybe deliberately, another option is contaminated sports nutrition,” explained Shubenkov's representative. He noticed that there are many circumstances that absolve athletes from responsibility.
