Scientists have come to the conclusion that the structure of the bottom of the Red Sea is typical of a young ocean. In addition, the researchers said that the age of the oceanic crust of the Red Sea was twice that.
Briefly about the research is told by the edition “N + 1”. Scientists used gravimetric and seismic data to determine the structure of the Krasnoye Sori crust. The researchers also performed geochemical analysis of magmatic samples from the bottom.
The analysis showed that the features of the bottom are typical of the oceanic crust. As a result, it was possible to correct the bottom area occupied by the oceanic crust. It turned out that it continuously lines the axial part of the reservoir up to the Red Sea-Dead Sea fault. According to the model, the oceanic crust began to melt 13 million years ago.
Scientists have concluded that the Red Sea is now developing as a mature oceanic basin.
