Law enforcement officers detained the rector of Dagestan State Technical University (DSTU) for fraud worth millions of rubles and official forgery. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the Department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia for Dagestan.
“The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan has charged the rector of Dagestan State Technical University with committing crimes under part 4 of Article 159 (“Fraud committed by an organized group on a particularly large scale”) and part 2 of Article 292 (“Official forgery”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” the source said.
Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention for the accused is being resolved. Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the place of residence, registration and in the office of the detainee.
According to investigators, in 2015-2018, the accused as part of an organized criminal group, which included university officials, transferred money from the scholarship account of the university to the settlement accounts of authorized persons, and then cashed them. In addition, it became known that the members of the group forged signatures on payslips about receiving salaries and bonuses and received cash from their personal account without their being credited to the cashier of the educational institution.
The Department of the IC for the region added that for all the time, the attackers stole funds allocated to the university from the federal budget in the amount of more than 90 million rubles.
Earlier it was reported that the rector of Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov failed to appeal his arrest in the case of involvement in the contract murder of a deputy in 1999. It was clarified that he would be in jail until February 21.
