NATO aircraft, which fly in airspace over neutral zones without communication and without identification marks, pose a threat to passenger aircraft, Alexander Romanov, a former aircraft commander, flight safety specialist, told Lente.ru. He assessed the danger of a US reconnaissance aircraft approaching a Belarusian passenger airliner.
“1300 meters is less than a safe distance, but not critical. Let's just say, sometimes the planes diverge in hundreds of meters, ”said the former pilot. According to him, it is possible to examine an approaching aircraft without identification marks only visually, since the aircraft tracking system does not display it.
There are certain rules for such cases. “If you see that another aircraft is flying towards you on the left, then you need to turn to the right and descend 300 feet down, if to the right, then you turn left and gain altitude,” he explained.
Earlier it was reported that the American RC-135V, performing a reconnaissance flight without contact with dispatchers, approached the passenger airliner Boeing 737 of the Belarusian airline Belavia. The difference in height between the two aircraft was only 1.3 thousand meters.
