Phys.org published the disappointing conclusions of experts from the Danish Meteorological Institute. In their opinion, the rain that passed on August 14 on the ice sheet – in Greenland – speaks of an impending catastrophe.
So, worried meteorologists considered rain in Greenland a symptom of global warming. It is known that precipitation fell at an altitude of about three thousand meters above sea level, namely, at the highest point of the Greenland ice sheet. Moreover, it is assumed that this could have happened the first time. According to representatives of the Danish Meteorological Institute, the rains here could fall only under certain conditions – at temperatures above or slightly below zero degrees Celsius.
The researchers drew attention to the fact that such warming has been observed only nine times in two thousand years, and three of these cases came in the last ten years.
“ We cannot say for sure whether there was precipitation in the previous six times, but such a phenomenon is extremely unlikely,” the authors of the scientific work shared.
