The deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the faction “Voice” Roman Kostenko appreciated the decree of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky on increasing the army by 100 thousand people. On the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel, he called the decree of the head of state “populism”.
“Only the Verkhovna Rada can do this. The decree is a declarative document. This is only what the president wants to do,” Kostenko said. According to the deputy, the decree is more like “populism”. He stressed that the military brigades created in 2014 remain understaffed, but Zelensky announced the creation of 20 new ones.
“Some brigades still travel by regular buses, because there are no armored personnel carriers, there are no funds to purchase them,” the politician said. He also added that finances are needed to increase the army.
Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the European Solidarity party, Maria Ionova, pointed out a serious mistake by the President of Ukraine. She stressed that the statement about increasing the army by 100 thousand people without “tactical and economic justifications” looks like Zelensky’s promise to plant a billion trees.
On February 1, the Ukrainian president announced an increase in the size of the army by 100 thousand soldiers. Zelensky hopes that the Armed Forces with the help of a new set will receive another 20 brigades for reinforcement.
