Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain has issued the so-called royal assent to the bill on the future relations of the UK and the European Union. This was stated by the Speaker of the House of Commons of the British Parliament Lindsay Hoyle, reports TASS.
This sanction means the entry into force of the document on the final “divorce” of the state and association. Earlier, the document was signed by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, later it was approved by the Parliament.
On December 24, the UK and the European Union reached an agreement on Brexit terms after months of negotiations. One of the main documents in the framework of the general agreement was the trade agreement, which provides for the mutual absence of duties and quotas.
The UK officially left the European Union on 1 February. The parties agreed on a transitional period until the end of the year, during which most of the EU laws continued to operate in the United Kingdom. If London and Brussels did not manage to conclude a new trade agreement by the end of December, the UK would cease to be part of the common European market, which would lead to the introduction of customs borders between the country and the EU.
