In Kazakhstan, the massive protests that rocked the country in early January 2022 killed at least 225 people, with 265 injured so far in hospitals.
This was announced by the head of the criminal prosecution service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan Serik Shalabayev at a briefing.
According to him, 4,578 victims have been identified to date, of which 4,353 are injured, including 3,393 security officials.
In turn, the director of the public relations department of the Ministry of Health Assel Artakshinova specified that out of 225 dead, 175 people died in medical institutions. 265 victims continue to be treated in clinics, 67 of them are in intensive care.
“The data is preliminary and may be updated and changed,” he said.
Currently, the Prosecutor General's Office is investigating 546 criminal cases, including 44 on acts of “terrorism”, 34 on riots, and 15 on murders. In connection with the suspicion, according to him, 366 people have already been taken into custody.
Recall that at the beginning of 2022, protests continued in Kazakhstan for several days in a row.
The President of Kazakhstan introduced a state of emergency throughout the country, and also turned to the CSTO with a request for military support.
