The helicopter was part of a convoy of three helicopters with which the Iranian delegation was returning from the grand opening of a dam on the Araks River on the border of Iran and Azerbaijan, in which the presidents of both countries took part.

Iranian media publish a video of a search operation in the area of the helicopter accident. Due to bad weather, aerial searches have been suspended, rescue operations are being carried out by foot rescue teams.
“We have been in contact with the president's companions, but due to the difficult terrain, communication is complicated , and we are waiting for the rescue teams to reach the scene of the accident and landing of the helicopter and provide us with information,” the head of the Iranian Ministry of Internal Affairs, quoted by Tasnim, said on one of the Iranian TV channels.
