President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) Vadim Krasnoselsky said that Tiraspol does not yet see Chisinau's interest in holding negotiations in the “5 plus 2” format (Moldova, Pridnestrovie, RF, Ukraine, OSCE) on the Transnistrian settlement. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
“On December 2, I sent a letter to Ms. Maya Sandu, conveyed it through the OSCE mission, with a request to quickly appoint a political representative and convene this format,” the PMR leader said.
Krasnoselsky also stressed that he had not received a response from Chisinau on the issue of the upcoming negotiations, and “there is no interest yet.”
The PMR declared independence in 1990 after an armed conflict with Chisinau. The hostilities in the region ended in 1992 after the introduction of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, which is still there. Now Moldova and the PMR as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE as mediators, as well as the European Union and the United States as observers are participating in the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the 5 plus 2 format.
