The Russian-occupation authorities in South Ossetia plan to hold a “referendum” on July 17 “referendum” about the accession of the so-called “republic” to Russia.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili reacted to this decision. She called such actions a provocation from Russia and warned of a response from the world community.
The head of Georgia said this at a solemn event on the occasion of Georgia's Independence Day on Thursday, April 26.< /p>
“Another provocation by Russia, the threat of a referendum in South Ossetia and annexation will not be able to ignite the confrontation between us and will not force us to reconsider our peace policy. Russia must not make another fatal mistake. This will not go unanswered and will provoke a response from the international community,” she said.
Zurabishvili added that Georgia does not intend to use military force against Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Recall that the so-called “president” of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, signed a decree on joining the Russian Federation. The text of the decree says that the vote is being held in connection with the “historical desire of the people of the Republic of South Ossetia for reunification with Russia.”
