The Most Reverend Sister Simona Brambilla MC will head the Dicastery for Consecrated Life.

Sister Simona Brambilla will become the prefect of the department responsible for all religious orders of the Catholic Churches.

60-year-old Simona Brambilla has become the first woman to head the Dicastery, Pope Francis announced on Monday, January 6, in the Vatican. He appointed the Most Reverend Sister Simona Brambilla MC, currently Secretary of the Dicastery of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, as Prefect of this office of the Roman Curia.

Sister Simona Brambilla: what is known about her

Simona Brambilla was born in northern Italy in 1965.

She studied to be a nurse and in 1988 she entered the Congregation of the Missionaries of Our Lady of Consolation, where she made her first vows in 1991.

Simona Brambilla then taught at Institute of Psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, where she also defended her doctorate in psychology in 2008.

The sister was also the general counselor in her congregation and the general superior.

Simona Brambilla finished her ministry in 2023.

Recall that earlier the Pope addressed the faithful with a New Year's speech. The Pontiff also called on the leaders of wealthy states to “forgive the debts” of poorer countries so that their people are not “crushed by debt.”
