The plasma from those who recovered from the coronavirus turned out to be useless in the treatment of new cases. The corresponding conclusions follow from a study by scientists published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
So, from April to June, 464 patients from India infected with coronavirus participated in the experiment. Half of them received plasma transfusions from those who had already suffered from the disease. The second half was prescribed classical treatment.
It turned out that blood plasma did not reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 or death. However, the UK National Health Service said the study used plasma with antibody levels 6-10 times lower than those used in Britain.
The use of plasma to treat infection is considered a promising development. The head of the Russian Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko also announced the creation of such a medicine. This drug, he said, will have a higher concentration and will be intended for the treatment of critically ill patients.
