The Perseid Starfall will take place over Moscow on the night of August 12-13

In August, residents of Moscow will be able to observe the Perseid starfall. The peak of the flow will fall on the night from 12 to 13, according to Vechernyaya Moskva.

Starfall occurs as the Earth crosses the orbit of comet 109P / Swift-Tuttle. The Moscow Planetarium clarified that the Perseids are the most intense stream of the year. If the weather is good, you can see up to 110 cars per hour.

Observations do not require special equipment such as telescopes. Starfall will be visible to the naked eye.

Scientists have clarified that the shooting “stars” are actually dust particles ejected by a comet. When they enter the Earth's atmosphere, they ignite and flash brightly.

Note that there are several meteor showers per year. So, in December, you can watch the Geminid meteor shower. It is associated with a dust trail left by the asteroid Phaethon several thousand years ago.
