The Pentagon said that it sees no point in firing ATACMS missiles at Russian territory

ATACMS will not be able to reach most Russian airfields.

The Pentagon believes that Russia keeps the bulk of its aircraft at airfields to which ATACMS missiles are attached, and therefore sees no point in using them against Russian targets.

This was stated by Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson Sabrina Singh, reports Ukrinform.

“According to our intelligence estimates, 90% of Russian aircraft launching guided bombs and missiles at Ukraine are stationed at airfields that are 300 km from Ukrainian-controlled territory,” the Pentagon representative noted.

She noted that most ATACMS missiles will not be able to reach these airfields, so the threats posed by Russian aircraft with their weapons will remain.

“And even if Ukraine used ATACMS against a very small percentage of airfields that remained within the radius — and we have seen the Russians move these airfields further inland over and over again — the impact would be very small and would have very little strategic value,” Singh noted.

Recall that earlier it was reported that White House National Security Adviser John Kirby said that Ukraine would not be able to hit 90% of Russia’s aircraft with ATACMS.

In addition, we previously reported that the restrictions imposed by the US on strikes on Russia are damaging to Ukraine, and the Biden administration’s rationale is constantly changing.
