Pentagon spokesman Kirby: US military remains in Ukraine for the safety of diplomats

A small number of US military personnel remain in Ukraine to ensure the safety of American diplomats. The reason for the US military presence on Ukrainian territory was revealed by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, RIA Novosti reports.
“In Ukraine, there is still a small military presence associated with our diplomatic presence,” Kirby said. However, he did not specify what forces he was talking about. The Pentagon spokesman added that Florida National Guard soldiers who worked as instructors for Ukrainian troops were withdrawn from the country, as previously announced.
Earlier, Kirby stressed that in the event of a military escalation between Moscow and Kiev, US soldiers would not fight in Ukraine. According to him, the use of US military personnel even to evacuate American citizens from Ukraine could increase the likelihood of a clash between Russian and American armed forces.
