Pentagon spokesman John Kirby reiterated Russia's military presence at the border with Ukraine. He made a statement on Monday, December 20, TASS quoted him as saying.

The US continues to express concern, he said. “There is still a significant Russian military presence at the border with Ukraine,” he said.

Kirby added that American aircraft will continue to fly over the Black Sea. “We will continue to fly, walk and conduct operations where international law allows us to do so,” – concluded a spokesman for the Pentagon.

Earlier in December, Kirby said that the US authorities had very clearly conveyed to Russia what specifically worried them about the situation around Ukraine.

Since late October, Western and Ukrainian media, as well as a number of high-ranking politicians, have accused Russia of preparing a military invasion of Ukraine. Photos taken from aerial photographs were presented as evidence: they show the movements of Russian troops within the borders of the country. Russia denies accusations of trying to provoke a conflict and notes that all military movements are made at its discretion and without violating international agreements.
