The Pentagon gave a warning to Congress.
The American Pentagon said that the money for military aid Ukraine will expire by December 30 unless Congress approves new funding.
This was stated by the controller of the US Department of Defense Michael McCord, reports Bloomberg.
“The Department of Defense is spending its final $1.07 billion to purchase new weapons and equipment to replace those removed from stockpiles and sent to Ukraine,” said Michael McCord.
When these funds are used, he said, the ministry will exhaust the funding available to provide security assistance to Ukraine. It is noted that McCord stated this in a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate committees on defense policy and appropriations.
The publication writes that the letter should put pressure on the US Congress to approve more than $60 billion that President Joe Biden has invited to help Ukraine. Additionally, this letter means that Republicans who are away on Christmas break have time to address this issue when they return to work after January 1.
Recall that Politico published an article that The US Congress may not agree on the border and assistance to Ukraine this year. This Sunday Republican Senator James Lankford, Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Democratic Senator Chris Murphy negotiated behind closed doors. They subsequently stated that they were making progress on these issues.
