While Congress is debating whether or not to continue aid to Ukraine, the Pentagon is counting the remaining money.
The United States has just over $5.4 billion to provide military aid to Ukraine.
This was announced by Pentagon Speaker General Patrick Ryder.
“At the moment we have more than 5.4 billion that we can use for Ukraine through the PDA mechanism,” Ryder said. (PDA – Presidential Drawdown Authority – a mechanism that allows the US President to transfer reserves of state property that is federally owned).
The Pentagon has another $1.6 billion left to replenish its own stockpiles of weapons, such as missiles and artillery shells, after providing assistance to Ukraine.
Let us recall that Pentagon head Lloyd J. Austin and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke in Congress, where they called on legislators to vote in favor of providing financial assistance to Ukraine.
Currently, US political circles are discussing support for President Joe Biden's request to Congress to allocate $105 billion. Of these, they want to allocate $61.3 billion to Ukraine, and $14.3 billion to Israel.
Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, are pushing for aid to Israel while ignoring Biden's request for Ukraine.
In turn, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell insists on a decision on joint assistance to Ukraine and Israel.
