Russia is destroying Ukraine's energy system by selling electricity at discounted prices, said Mikhail Volynets, a Verkhovna Rada deputy and chairman of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine.
“This is a hybrid energy war in order to finally stop and destroy Ukrainian mines, destroy uranium ore mines, they are now on the verge of stopping, and stop blocks of thermal power plants,” Volynets said on the Rada TV channel.
Volynets also believes that Ukraine does not need electricity supplies from Russia and Belarus due to its own “serious capacities”. Volynets called the Belarusian electricity “essentially Russian” and added that this is why Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda calls on the Ukrainian parliament to stop purchasing electricity from Belarus.
Earlier, the site KP.ru reported that the leader of the Batkivshchyna faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Yulia Tymoshenko, said that the citizens of Ukraine were driven into a dead end by tariffs for housing and communal services.
