The pandemic has had an unexpected impact on the Earth's climate
Scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research have determined that the coronavirus pandemic and related restrictions have affected the global climate. There was a slight warming, reports “Evening Moscow”.
It is known that during a pandemic, human activity decreased significantly. Many industries have stopped, traffic has decreased. As a result, less pollutants were released into the atmosphere than usual.
As a result, temperatures rose slightly because aerosol particles obstructed sunlight. Rising to great heights, they “reflected” the rays back into space. When their volume decreased, more heat began to flow to the Earth.
The scientists noted that carbon dioxide emissions have also declined, but have begun to recover rapidly in recent months. It is known that CO2 is able to stay in the atmosphere for a very long time, retaining heat and contributing to the greenhouse effect. Therefore, a break of several months could not change the situation globally.
Earlier it became known that the modern climate has become the hottest in 12 thousand years. It may have broken the 125,000-year record, but scientists are not yet sure of that.
