Scientists from Irkutsk State University discovered in the Tunkinsky region of the Republic of Buryatia a site of an ancient man of a species unknown to science, who lived 33 thousand years ago. The age of the human remains was confirmed by paleogenetic experts from one of the leading research institutes of the Max Planck Society in Munich. According to Dora Khamaganova, a spokeswoman for the Tunkinskaya regional administration, on Facebook, this is the oldest homo sapiens camp in Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

“Several thousand artifacts, bones of a bison, red deer, red deer, panthers, scrapers, knives, plates, fragments of ceramics, semi-precious ornamental stones from carnelian, rock crystal, aged 33 thousand years and older, were found in the parking lot. That is, the people who lived in the Tuyana parking lot are five to six times older than the pharaohs of Egypt, ”the report cites the assessment of Ivan Berdnikov, deputy head of the Baikal Region Research Center of Irkutsk State University.

The work of ISU archaeologists in the Tunkinsky region has been going on since 2016.
