MOSCOW, July 3. / TASS /. A new generation of beavers will appear in the nursery of the Voronezh Reserve in the coming days. This was reported to TASS on Saturday by the press service of the Roszapovedtsentr of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia.

“Beaver cubs are born annually in May-June, but the cattery staff will be able to name the exact number of offspring only after the mothers bring the cubs into the world – until that moment, caring parents hide the offspring from human eyes. day “, – said in the Roszapovedtsentr.

Currently, about 50 beavers are kept in the nursery, thanks to which scientists have the opportunity to study the biology and diseases of beavers in more detail, and guests of the reserve can see live the most skilled engineers of the animal world.

“The process of the formation of beaver pairs in artificial conditions is interesting. The staff of the nursery put the male and the female in neighboring cages, separated by a lattice, and observe the behavior of the animals. If the animals show interest, they approach each other, sniff each other, then after a while they are transferred to a common aviary. However, it happens that beavers show obvious dissatisfaction and dislike for their neighbors. Then scientists offer them other partners, respecting the choice of animals and observing their right to a happy family life, “the press service said.

Today, half of the beavers living in Russia are of Voronezh origin; the beaver nursery has become an international scientific and tourist center. The “Bobrovy gorodok” was created there, consisting not only of the nursery buildings, but also of the “Bobronarium” enclosure with a swimming pool and the “Beaver Museum”, which annually receive thousands of tourists.

Voronezh Nature Reserve was established in 1923 with the aim of restoring the beaver population. At the beginning of the last century, due to predatory hunting, the beaver was almost exterminated – the total number of the species in the country then was less than a thousand animals. In 1932, a beaver nursery was opened in the reserve, which successfully coped with its task and today there is no need to fear for the beaver population in the wild.
