Copenhagen emphasizes that this is a matter of self-defense.
The Netherlands will not object to the use of fighter jets by Ukraine F-16 over the territory of the aggressor country, Russia. We are talking about a means of self-defense.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Hanke Bruins Slot, Radio Liberty reports.
She arrived on the second day of the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Prague
“If you have the right to self-defense, there are no limits to the use of weapons… This is a general principle,” Slot emphasized.
In addition, the diplomat emphasized that the use of Western aircraft over Russian territory gives Ukraine Article 51 of the UN Charter, which talks about the right to self-defense.
Recall that Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lykke Rasmussen said that Copenhagen will allow the use of its F-16s against targets in Russia. According to him, the ability to attack military targets on the territory of the aggressor is part of self-defense.
