At the end of the first half of 2021, the number of crimes committed on the Internet increased in Russia by more than 20% compared to the same period last year. This is evidenced by the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

At the same time, it is noted that more than half of such crimes (57.1%) belong to the category of grave and especially grave crimes. Two thirds of crimes are committed via the Internet, and another third – via mobile communications.

As cybersecurity expert Andrei Masalovich notes, the explosive growth of this type of crime has been recorded since the beginning of the period of the pandemic and isolation.

“Due to the emergence of new types of software: raw software has entered the market, the range of attacks associated with remote work has expanded,” the expert noted.

We add that the largest increase in crimes on the Internet was recorded in Chechnya (176.9%), Dagestan (141.2%), Moscow (126.5%) and Tula (117.9%) regions. And the smallest growth is in the Pskov (-20.8%), Ivanovo (-18.8%) regions, in the Republic of Mari El (-15%), OTR reports.

We will remind, earlier it became known that since the beginning of 2021 more than 180 serious crimes have been solved in Russia. This is almost a third more than a year earlier, “360” TV channel reports.
