A menu from the Titanic will be auctioned in Britain.
In the UK, a menu from the restaurant of the sunken ship “Titanic” will be sold at auction – it was found in the clothes of one of the dead passengers. The auction will take place on November 11.
This was reported by the auction house Henry Aldridge and Son.
The starting price of the menu at the auction is 60 thousand pounds sterling (2.6 million hryvnia).
The menu from the sunken liner was put up for sale by the family of Canadian historian Len Stevenson, who died in 2017. Stevenson's daughter found the menu in her deceased father's belongings – in an old photo album.
“Len was a very well-known historian in Nova Scotia, which has close ties to the Titanic,” the statement said.
It is not yet known how the man got it.
It is known that Len Stevenson worked at the post office in Nova Scotia, where the bodies of those killed during the sinking of the Titanic were delivered.
“Given Nova Scotia's connection to the Titanic and the fact that it shows signs of water damage, it is likely that the menu originates from one of the victims,” the auction house said.
The menu list includes dishes that were served in the Titanic's first class restaurant in the days before the ship sank. According to the menu, first class passengers dined on oysters, beef fillet and parsnip puree, as well as desserts including apricot tart and pudding.
Until now, only a few other menus from the liner, dated April 14, were known, which were found in the clothes of people fleeing the ship on the day of the tragedy.
According to experts, there is no other sample menu for dinner on April 11 in first class in the world.
