A photo of the Slovak and Russian ministers shaking hands was published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Slovak President Zuzana Caputova negative reacted to the meeting of Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at a diplomatic forum in Turkey.
She wrote about this on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
“The Slovak-Russian meeting of foreign ministers did not bring us closer to a just peace in Ukraine, where Russia illegally and groundlessly invaded,” she emphasized.
At the same time, in her message, she proposed “the fastest path to peace” – this will happen when Russian President Vladimir Putin orders his troops to leave Ukraine.
According to Zuzana Caputova, the owner of the Kremlin should not be given “hopes for his victory and acceptance.”
Until now, not a single head of the EU foreign ministry, except for the Hungarian minister Peter Szijjártó, has tainted himself with meetings with Lavrov, who back in 2022, together with the president of the aggressor state, Vladimir Putin, was included in the EU sanctions list. A photo of Lavrov and Blanar shaking hands was published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Recall that the Slovak Prime Minister Minister Robert Fico called the meeting between Slovakia's chief diplomat and Lavrov an example of “our balanced and sovereign Slovak foreign policy on all sides of the world.”
