The mayor of Rio de Janeiro named a possible date for the future carnival
In Brazil, the main holiday, the carnival, was canceled. This was announced by the mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes.
In his microblog, he wrote that he understands the consequences this threatens for the city's economy. But in the current coronavirus situation, the July carnival cannot be held. Paes expressed confidence that the celebration will take place in 2022.
The previously independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro has decided to postpone traditional carnival parades to a later date due to the coronavirus pandemic. Recall that in 2020, carnival festivities in Rio de Janeiro, which lasted at least two months, were attended by more than 10.5 million people.
