Jacob LaGrone appeared in a Texas court last week.
To the groom from the “wedding of the century” that went viral in the past month on TikTok, faces life imprisonment.
Mens Journal writes about this.
Jacob LaGrone, 29, rose to social media fame in November when his wife, Medeline Brockway, 27, posted a TikTok video of their lavish wedding. Various publications estimate the cost of the event from 56 to 89 million dollars. Madeline's father is Robert Brockway, chairman and CEO of Bill Ussery Motors, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables and Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, Florida.
According to The Independent, the couple's celebrations spanned a five-day vacation in Paris. Their rehearsal dinner was held at the Paris Opera House, followed by a night at the Palace of Versailles. At the party, Maroon 5 serenaded the Dior-clad bride and groom during their first dance. According to The Economic Times, the registry includes various luxury items such as a crystal butterfly house for $12,500, an antique vase for $5,600 and an antique silver tea set for $2,950.

Brockway and LaGrone instantly gained popularity when footage of the event circulated, with many unironically calling it the “wedding of the century.” But it appears that his newfound fame has come at a price. The Washington Post reported that LaGrone is now the center of a criminal investigation and faces decades in prison. A legal issue that most likely played out in private is now unfolding on a national scale.
Authorities say that on March 14, police in Westworth Village, Texas, responded to a string of disturbance calls at the same address. When officers arrived at the residence to assess the situation, LaGrone allegedly “fired at” them, according to the indictment reviewed by The Post. The documents allege that LaGrone “intentionally and knowingly threatened imminent bodily harm” on multiple officers and “did use or display a deadly weapon during the attack, namely a firearm.”
LaGrone was arrested and later released on $20,000 bail. However, he still faces trial. In Texas, a crime against a police officer resulting in serious bodily injury is considered a first-degree felony. The range of penalties is huge – from five to 99 years or even life imprisonment.
The defendants appeared at the Tarrant County Courthouse on November 30, but it is unclear what was discussed there. In August, just three months before the extravagant wedding week, the district attorney's office offered LaGrone a plea agreement. Under the terms, LaGrone will waive his right to trial and plead guilty in exchange for a relatively short sentence of 25 years.
After LaGrone's court appearance last week, Brockway deleted her TikTok account, which contained wildly popular videos of their ceremony, and closed her Instagram account.
Recall that the lovers got married and a few years later became half-brother and sister. The love story takes an unexpected turn.
