Astronomers have identified the most dangerous object for the Earth. This is the asteroid Bennu, which reaches 500 meters in diameter.
It was discovered in 1999. The asteroid has already approached the Earth several times, so scientists have been able to study it. As it turned out, Bennu is active, and even organic matter was found on him.
Scientists reported that the probability of an asteroid colliding with the Earth before 2300 is estimated at one chance in 1750. The highest probability refers to September 2182 – one chance in 2700.
Previously, the most dangerous object was considered the asteroid (29075) 1950 DA. Now the main contender for a collision with the planet is Bennu. The next time he will come close to Earth in 2037. This will allow scientists to refine its orbit.
