A war between the United States and China or the United States and Russia is unlikely to happen in the near future, such theories are being promoted in the interests of the American military-industrial complex. So the likelihood of a third world war with the participation of these powers was assessed by the professor of peace and conflict studies at Uppsala University Ashok Swain.
In a conversation with Lenta.ru, the political scientist stressed that such incitement to war has significantly weakened American power over the past two decades. He lamented that the US did not seem to have learned a lesson from the terrible defeat in Afghanistan.
According to Swain, neither the United States, nor Russia or China have a military potential that would be significantly superior in power to all others. “The leaders of these countries understand very well that a direct military clash between them at the moment will be extremely destructive for both, even for the whole world,” Swain emphasized.
The specialist suggested that these powers will continue to carry out cyberattacks against each other, as is happening now. However, they will be limited rather than massive and will continue to be the work of non-state actors protected by the respective governments. Moreover, with a high degree of probability, confrontation between Washington and Moscow and Washington and Beijing may increase in the spheres of trade and diplomacy, but all this will not lead to a direct military conflict, let alone a war.
Not only political leaders, but also their military leaders understand very well that if they start a war against each other, then there will be no third world war, but there will be a doomsday war
Earlier, security expert Andrew Mista wrote in a column for The Wall Street Journal that he believed a world war could break out in the next five years. The military expert said that the risk of a conflict between China and the United States, which could turn into a hot phase, has greatly increased recently. For example, it may start because of a dispute between countries over the ownership of Taiwan.
