Scientists have conducted experiments and found that the initial size of the pupil can be a marker of a person's level of intelligence.
Briefly about the research of scientists from the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) writes Naked Science. They conducted several experiments with more than 500 people aged 18 to 35 years. They measured the size of their pupils at rest and in dim light. After that, the volunteers had to pass a series of tests that determined the level of their “mobile intelligence”. By this concept, scientists mean the ability to think logically, analyze and solve new problems using working memory, as well as concentrate attention despite interference.
As it turned out, people with initially larger pupils showed higher levels of fluid intelligence and alertness.
Scientists have suggested that the matter is in the activity of the blue spot – a nucleus in the brain stem, at the level of the bridge. Pupil size and probably cognitive and brain function depend on it.
