< strong>There have been reports in the Western media about the possibility of the first meeting between Chinese and American leaders Xi Jinping and Joe Biden.
Before that, the Chinese and US presidents communicated only by phone.
According to The Wall Street Journal, it was during the last conversation that they agreed to meet in person. The leadership teams are now agreeing on the details of the meeting, according to the TSN story.
It could be held in the fall either at the G20 summit in Indonesia or the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Thailand. There is no official confirmation of the place and time of the meeting yet.
For Xi Jinping, the autumn summits will be the first trips abroad in two years – the last time he left China was before the coronavirus pandemic. In recent weeks, relations between the United States and China deteriorated against the backdrop of a visit to the island of Taiwan by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi. Beijing considers its territory and reacted to the visit with large-scale military exercises, an exit from cooperation with America in climate and military spheres, as well as personal sanctions against Pelosi and members of her family.
As previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is looking for an opportunity to speak directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the war unleashed by Russia. The head of state believes that China is probably the only state that can influence the position of the Russian Federation regarding the war unleashed by it.
