Thousands of online media outlets, social networks, companies and government agencies have stopped working normally. Due to problems in the American CDN provider Fastly, popular in the West, the Internet pages of the White House, the British government, PayPal, social networks Reddit and Twitch, streaming services Hulu, HBO Max, as well as publications The Guardian, The New York “lay down” Times, BBC, Financial Times and CNN. The massive failure lasted for about an hour and a half.
According to the Downdetector portal, users began to report malfunctions of large sites and Internet services on June 8 at about 13:00 Moscow time. On some Internet pages, the download speed significantly decreased, in some cases, network resources simply “crashed” and did not open.

Twitch, Reddit, and some media outlets like The New York Times and IGN have reported error 503 or “connection error” messages. Some of the affected sites were able to restart in emergency mode. For example, Bloomberg opened with low-res images and broken links on the home page.

Subsequently, Fastly confirmed the problem and set to work to resolve the problem. As it turned out, the failure occurred in the CDN infrastructure, which is used to store images, CSS styles, JS scripts and other elements in large companies. Within an hour and a half, Fastly identified the service configuration that was causing the worldwide POP to malfunction and disabled that configuration.
We identified a service configuration that triggered disruptions across our POPs globally and have disabled that configuration. Our global network is coming back online. Continued status is available at https://t.co/RIQWX0LWwl
