A new study has shown that in 2031, earthlings will be able to see the largest comet. Its diameter is about 200 km.
The comet was discovered by astronomers from Pennsylvania State University. This was helped by an analysis of data collected by a large telescope in Chile. The comet was named Bernardinelli-Bernstein after the scientists who discovered it.
Based on how the comet reflects light, its size was estimated at 100-200 km. This object is a thousand times more massive than typical comets. Bernardinelli-Bernstein is now within the orbit of Neptune. Within ten years, the comet will move into the inner solar system. In 2031, earthlings will be able to “catch” the object even with small telescopes.
A comet is a celestial body revolving around the Sun in an elongated orbit. When approaching a star, such objects form a coma and sometimes a tail of gas and dust.
