The largest chip maker announced a record price hike

by alex

The world's largest chip maker, Taiwan's TSMC, has announced a 20% price increase for its products since December. The increase will affect microcontrollers, systems-on-a-chip, graphics chips and other products. Since the fall of 2020, products from Taiwanese manufacturers have already increased in price by 10%. The new rise in price has become a record one. It is associated with growing demand, which is outstripping supply.

TSMC holds 56% of the microprocessor market. Its closest competitor Samsung produces 18%, the rest of the companies have market shares of less than 10%, the Nikkei reported.

The price of cutting-edge 7nm chips will rise by 10%. Such processors are used by many modern companies, including Ryzen, Qualcomm and Apple. 16-nanometer components will rise in price immediately by 20%.

During 2021, demand for chips rose to a record amid the 2020 crisis and logistics disruptions. TSMC is currently investing $ 100 billion to expand production and build factories in the state of Arizona in the United States and in Japan's Kumamoto.

Earlier, “Secret” wrote that the mandatory installation of GLONASS in Russian cars was postponed due to a shortage of microcircuits. And the manufacturer Toyota Motors had to cut production by 40%.
