The initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a summit of the “five” of the UN Security Council is still “on the table”, at such a meeting the parties can discuss the main challenges facing the international community. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti quotes.

“What if not the main challenge is what we are now going through together in Europe? Therefore, of course, hypothetically arguing, this topic should be discussed at such a high level, ”the Kremlin said.

This is how he commented on the words of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow could become a prelude to a summit of leaders of key countries. At such a meeting, mutual security concerns should be discussed, the American diplomat suggested.

Putin proposed holding a meeting of the leaders of the “five” of the UN Security Council back in January 2020, when he spoke at the World Holocaust Remembrance Forum. It was supported by all the other participants in this format – Great Britain, China, the USA and France.
