The Kremlin is tightening the screws – British intelligence on strengthening censorship in Russia

by alex

The Kremlin suppresses freedom of speech inside Russia. British intelligence reports that censorship in the Russian Federation has been tightening recently.

British intelligence reports that the Russian leadership continues to strengthen censorship within the country in relation to ordinary citizens and media.

This is stated in the daily report of the British Ministry of Defense dated February 23.

British intelligence recalls that on February 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that made it possible to punish in the form of confiscation of property for “spreading false information” about the Russian army.

Before that, a draft was introduced in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, expanding the grounds for declaring an “undesirable organization”, probably aimed at further limiting the activities of Russian-language services of Western media, such as Radio Liberty, DW and the BBC.

“These steps are part of a broader trend on the part of the Russian authorities to control the internal information field in order to limit criticism and expression of dissent. Although this trend has been observed for many years, the processes have intensified significantly since the start of a full-scale war against Russia against Ukraine,” intelligence notes.

Recall that earlier British intelligence reported that in the Russian Federation the Putin regime is increasing censorship against the backdrop of the upcoming presidential elections. In particular, in mid-October, the Russian Ministry of Education and Science ordered universities to avoid open discussion of any “negative political, economic and social trends” in the Russian Federation.
