The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov spoke about Vladimir Putin’s plans to participate in the Munich Security Conference in 2022, RIA Novosti reports.
A Kremlin spokesman revealed Putin’s plans and said that he refused to participate in the conference this year. Peskov answered negatively to the question whether this event is indicated in the president’s schedule. “No,” said the press secretary of the Russian leader.
The Munich Security Conference will be held in person for the first time in two years. It is scheduled for February 18-20.
Earlier, the United States recalled Putin’s warning, which he made at the Munich conference in 2007. Then the Russian president said that Moscow demands to provide security guarantees from the United States and NATO member countries.
Putin asked his Western colleagues to change course, but his demand was considered “belligerent.” Journalist Ted Carpenter noted that now the states in the North Atlantic Alliance themselves have done enough to aggravate the situation.
On January 26, US Ambassador John Sullivan handed over to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko Washington’s written response on security guarantees. To do this, he personally arrived at the building of the Russian Foreign Ministry. NATO also provided a response on security guarantees: they were handed over to the Russian ambassador in Brussels.
