The expulsion of US Deputy Ambassador to Russia Bart Gorman is a response to a provocation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on the reasons for the authorities' decision, TASS quoted him as saying.
“As for the expulsion of an American diplomat, this is a retaliatory measure, and again – this cannot be a measure that is an act that provokes something. This is a response to [Washington's] provocation,” Peskov explained.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that US Deputy Ambassador to Russia Bart Gorman was ordered to leave Russia as a mirror measure in response to the unjustified expulsion of a Russian diplomat from the United States.
